Intura Flat roof windows for flat roofs - HR++ glass and triple glazing HR+++

A flat roof window is an insulated daylight solution with flat glass for a flat or low-pitched roof. The glazing, frame and upstand form one complete system. It may also be described as a flat-glass rooflight or flat roof skylight.

Intura supplies fixed and electrically ventilated flat roof windows, solar-control and opal models, walkable flat roof windows and manual roof access hatches. Renovation modules are also available for suitable existing roof dome upstands, together with FL Premium bespoke solutions including XXL sizes and electric roof access.

A fixed window provides daylight without an opening function. An electrically ventilated PGC IQ flat roof window can be opened remotely or via an app for natural ventilation and closes automatically when the rain sensor detects precipitation.

HR+++ consists of three panes and insulates better than HR++ double glazing. In the fixed Intura range, the PGX A1 has HR++ glazing with Ug 1.0 W/m²K and Uw 0.99 W/m²K. The PGX B1 has HR+++ glazing with Ug 0.5 W/m²K and a combined U-value of approximately 0.64 W/m²K. The specification of the selected product always takes precedence.

Solar-control glazing is useful for large glazed areas, strong solar exposure or rooms that heat up quickly. It admits daylight while limiting part of the solar heat gain. Orientation, ventilation, external shading and how the room is used also remain important.

Opal glazing diffuses daylight and limits direct views into the room. It is therefore suitable for bathrooms, sanitary spaces and other areas where privacy is important. It does not provide a clear view outside.

Consider the floor area, the depth and function of the room, the location of dark areas, the roof structure and the desired distribution of light. A glazed area of approximately 10% of the floor area is a useful initial guide, but not an official daylight calculation. For planning approval or a performance requirement, have the equivalent daylight area calculated for the specific project.

Not always. One large window creates a strong central daylight zone and requires one opening. Several smaller windows can distribute daylight more evenly across a long or wide room and may fit better between existing joists. Also compare structural work, weight, installation and solar exposure.

The fixed Intura PGX ranges are available in fifteen roof opening sizes: 60×60, 60×90, 60×120, 70×70, 80×80, 90×90, 90×120, 100×100, 100×150, 100×200, 100×250, 120×120, 120×220, 140×140 and 200×200 cm. For Intura flat roof windows, the commercial size is generally stated as the roof opening size. The external and packaging dimensions are larger. Before creating the opening, always check the technical drawing and installation instructions for the exact model and size.

Weight varies considerably by size, glazing specification and function. A fixed 60×60 cm PGX A1 weighs approximately 32 kg, a 100×100 cm model approximately 66 kg, a 100×200 cm model approximately 136 kg and a 200×200 cm model approximately 266 kg. Triple-glazed, walkable and opening models may have different weights. Always use the product-specific weight when planning transport and lifting.

Installation is straightforward for an experienced contractor or roofer because the window is supplied as a complete unit with an insulated upstand. Good preparation remains essential: the opening must be accurately sized, square, level and structurally suitable, and the roofing membrane must be connected watertight to the upstand in accordance with the instructions.

The glazing, frame and insulated upstand are prepared as one coordinated system. This requires fewer separate components and junctions than solutions assembled from individual parts on the roof. Actual time savings depend on the roof build-up, opening, accessibility and roofing membrane.

Many PGX, PGC and PGM models are intended for roof pitches from 2° to 15°. Sufficient fall is required for drainage and to limit standing water. Check the technical data for the selected model and the requirements of the roofing membrane.

A fixed service life cannot be guaranteed for every roof. Installation quality, fall, watertight detailing, exposure, maintenance and timely replacement of wear parts determine the useful life. Inspect the glazing, drainage, roofing connection, sealant joints and moving parts annually.

Many Intura roof windows and flat roof windows carry a 10-year warranty unless stated otherwise. Different periods generally apply to electrical components, moving parts and accessories. The product page, order confirmation and current warranty conditions always take precedence.

A well-insulated flat roof window can reduce heat loss compared with an old or poorly insulated roof opening and reduce the need for artificial light during the day. A fixed saving percentage would be misleading because the result depends on the previous situation, size, orientation, glazing, airtightness, solar exposure and installation.

Provide sufficient ventilation, correct internal finishing, continuous insulation and an airtight vapour-control connection on the warm side. Keep relative humidity under control during colder periods. Condensation on the room side often indicates a combination of high humidity and a cold surface.

No. Only a model specifically designed and installed as walkable, such as the PGX A5, is intended for this purpose. Standard fixed or ventilating flat roof windows must not be walked on. The surrounding supporting structure and terrace build-up must also be assessed.

Yes. The PGM range can be used as a manually operated passage to a roof terrace, inspection roof or maintenance area. Check the size, opening direction, safe passage, fall protection and terrace floor connection. FL Premium is available for larger electric roof access.

Many popular stock models have an average delivery time of 2–3 working days. Other configurations, special glazing types or sizes not held in stock may take longer, for example 5–6 weeks. The current delivery time is shown for each selected product variant.

The window is protectively packaged; larger and heavier sizes are delivered on a pallet. The delivery address must be accessible to the lorry and unloading equipment. Delivery is made at ground level. Arrange sufficient people or suitable lifting equipment to move the product onto the roof.

Sometimes. For full replacement, check whether the opening, upstand, supporting structure and roofing membrane are suitable for the new window. If the existing upstand is technically sound and the correct size, the DGP A1 renovation module may be a solution without replacing the complete upstand.

A low-maintenance PVC Intura frame is suitable for humid rooms. Choose opal glazing where privacy is important and consider an electrically ventilated model for additional natural ventilation. Good room ventilation and a correct vapour-control connection remain essential.
